How does the TGA regulate medical cannabis?

Medical cannabis products fall under the category of "unapproved therapeutic goods". These are goods that have not been fully legalised within Australia, except in certain circumstances. This is because the TGA recognises that there are times when the currently legally available products may not meet a patient's needs.

Unapproved therapeutic goods, such as medical cannabis products, can only be accessed through the Special Access Scheme (SAS). This is a process where your doctor applies to the TGA to prescribe a certain product to you, and we then need to wait for the SAS approval to come back before your order can be dispensed.

However, most of our doctors are registered as Authorised Prescribers (AP), which greatly reduces the waiting time and means you get your medication sooner. We actively look to assist our doctors in obtaining AP status to speed up approval times.

In addition to the above, there are also strict laws surrounding the advertisement of medical cannabis products, which is why we are unable to provide exact pricing or information on brands until you become a patient with us.
